Pair of Grand French Terra Cotta Griffins
Ref: GF5-129 Throughout ages, griffins (or gryphons) were known as the vigilant guardians of treasure. With the heads, wings (and frequently forelegs) of an eagle and the hind quarters, or sometimes the front legs of a lion; each, the "king" of his species, the griffin symbolizes strength. These are depicted holding a shield and their likenesses were often used in heraldry. One is pictured, but price is for the pair.
