French Limestone Fountain Figure
Ref: GF3-112 This magnificent and early (18th century) sculpture depicts a bearded, wizened river god. With seaweed in his hair and girding his loins, he sits upon a large leaf that is atop a giant scallop shell. He holds a melon-sectioned water vessel that serves as the spout for the fountain. Notice the wonderful, weathered patina bespeaking centuries of outdoor exposure. This important piece exudes both a human quality and godly presence.
